Come one and all to the Barony March of Mons Tonitrus to celebrate Spring, the fruits of Fall’s harvest, and the Dearly Departed at the Taverna Anthesteria!
The Ancient Greek festival of Anthesteria celebrated Dionysos and Hermes Cthonios (Hermes of the Underworld), and is thought to be somewhat like All Hallows Eve. A 3-day festival with special activities each day, it brought together celebrations of Spring and placations to the dead.
Day One: Friday evening, there will be a simple opening ceremony for, just as in the Ancient Greek festival Anthesteria describes, the Opening of the Jars, where last year’s harvest will be decanted and enjoyed.
Day Two: Saturday morning there will be Opening Court (at Their Excellencies’ discretion) where the day’s activities will be shared. As is traditional at Barmaids, there will be Archery, the Taverna Tourneys for Heavy and Rapier, Thrown Weapons, and Youth Combat, as well as Youth Activities.
Saturday evening, join the party at the Taverna for a buffet feast of kebabs, dates, pickles vegetables, flat breads, and other Mediterranean delights as the competitors for the Best Barmaid commences! The feast will be prepared by the household of Rogue’s Haven.
Day Three: Sunday morning late, the event will close with a Court and the giving of prizes from the tournaments, as well as the announcement of the winner of the Barmaids competition. Gate opens at 12:00 Friday and closes at 12:00 pm Sunday, SITE CLOSES at 2:00 pm

Let us enjoy the day together and let the smiles and laughter flow freely. And on the following day let us gather together to see the skill of the fighters of the kingdom compete for King and Queen’s Champion.

This weekend of tournaments will be a camping event. It will be held at the Clear Creek Campground near Camp Verde, Arizona. Attendees can wade in the creek, fish, or curl up with a book under the umbrella of cottonwood trees… but who are we kidding, we are coming together to fight for the honor of the NORTH!
Prowess tournament will be held for: armored combat, rapier combat, archery, thrown weapons, performing arts, arts and sciences and cooking. This year’s tournament theme will be the “Northern Stars”. More tournament details will follow.
Saturday evening we will gather to make Oaths and Toasts. Swear you blade, axe, bow, heart, loyalty or goat to another in the company of your Northern brethren. We will also honor those who have come before by speaking works and giving gifts for our gone, but not forgotten, Northern family members at the ancestors’ shrine. Wet site, pets on leashes, fires in designated rings/grills, drinking water and vault toilets available. The parking area can hold approximately 15-20 motorhomes or RVs. Please RSVP with the event steward via email to reserve your spot.

Take a journey along the Silk Road with the Barony of Sun Dragon at our glorious Fabric War! Since our garb is such an important part of creating the dream and these items cannot be purchased at mundane stores, it leads to the creation of our own attire and the undeniable hoarding of fabric for the hundreds of projects planned, but not executed. So, fellow seamstresses and tailors, break into your bins and shelves of fabric and get ready to purge, purchase and barter for a fresh set of inspiring fabrics at Fabric War! Our theme this year is the Great Silk Road! Spaces decorated in the theme of the event will be limited and are on a first come-first served basis. To reserve a decorated spaces, please contact Lady Bianca Charbonneau at nhopkins@cvcheart.com no later than June 8, 2018. Undecorated spaces will be available without reservation. Fabric War is a place for you to bring unwanted fabric and sell it back to your SCA family in hopes it is used in a new home. You may also bring your SCA garb or other related medieval related goods. In addition to our normal “Ugliest Fabric” contest and the “Great Fabric Melee,” we will have some new activities this year, including a Fashion Show and classes focused on the fiber and sewing arts! The Ugliest Fabric Contest. This can be entered by anyone who wants to participate. Submit your ugly fabric to be judged. The winner will receive a fantastic(ally frightening!) prize that is coveted by all!
The Great Fabric Melee: if you are just sick of your fabric and you don’t want to bring it home, you can place your fabric in a pile and there will be a free-for-all style of obtaining any of the fabric in the pile for free! This is a Sun Dragon tradition, and it is great fun!
Fashion Show at 1:00 pm. The talent is amazing in our seamstresses and tailors. Show off your fantastic works on the fashion show runway. Wear what you have made and tell us about your costuming so we can highlight your handiwork. We will have winners in different categories.
Opening court will be at 10:30 am and closing court at 3:00 pm with the Great Fabric Melee to immediately follow.
There are many restaurant options around site. A list will be available the day of the event.
Event is 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Site is dry, no pets (service animals allowed). Help with set up and take down is requested.
